Ethnic Romance: Mexican Embroidery

Posted On October 18, 2016

Fall is finally here!  It was still 90 degrees in the charming town of Charleston, so I had the chance to wear this beautifully embroidered Mexican number while on mini vacation.  In addition to showing this eye-opening ethnic piece, this post is also about dressing uniquely no matter where the source is.  I love discovering old, vintage treasures and mixing them with modern elements to create an individualized look.  This dress belonged to my late aunt, who loved to travel the world.  I didn’t get a chance to hear her story of how this dress was acquired, but thanks to the helpful Instagram community –  I learned that this is a Mexican design.

While this design could very well be targeted for tourists rather than being a traditional gear, it nevertheless reminds me of the floral embroidery seen on Dolce & Gabbana’s runway.  I love discovering and following the latest trends – but sometimes going to the actual source is a much more fun, authentic, and affordable way to look stylish.  I paired this dress with sneakers since I was traveling, and liked the unexpectedness of it. Platform espadrilles would work beautifully as well.
